07/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – The second round of inter-institutional negotiations (‘trilogues’) on the regulation to reduce the cost of deploying high-speed networks in the EU (‘Gigabit Infrastructure Act’) will take place on 25 January 2024. Parliament’s rapporteur on the dossier, Alin Mituța (Renew Europe, Romanian), has indicated that his aim is to reach a political agreement with the EU Council during the third trilogue at the latest, the date of which has already been set for 5 February. The EU Council adopted its position on 6 November (see EUROPE 13307/1) and the first trilogue took place on the same day. “The priorities were presented” and “both parties recognised the importance of the dossier and undertook to bring it to a close at the beginning of February”, said the rapporteur. At the same time, work has begun on the technical side and several meetings have already been scheduled. (TM)
