07/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 7 December, the European Commission authorised, under the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (see EUROPE 13138/1), a French aid scheme worth €4.12 billion to support the construction and operation of two floating offshore wind farms in the Gulf of Lion. Each of these wind farms should have a capacity of 230 to 280 MW and produce 1.1 TWh of renewable electricity per year. The aid will be open to two beneficiaries, who will be designated in 2024. Selection will be by means of a tender procedure. The aid will take the form of a variable monthly premium, based on a two-way contract for differences. Support will be calculated by comparing a reference price with the market price of electricity. The measure will apply for a period of 20 years. (EV)
