07/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 7 December, the European Commission approved the plan notified by France, following prior discussions, to pay La Poste compensation of €2.6 billion for its universal postal service obligation for the period 2021-2025, during which the company had been entrusted with the task of providing the universal postal service without receiving compensation. The Commission considered that the proposed compensation and the calculation of the amount of compensation complied with European rules on State aid, in particular the provisions on public service compensation. The Commission also considered that the proposed measure was in line with the provisions of the framework for services of general economic interest, adopted in 2011 (see EUROPE 10454/31). (EV)
