04/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 4 December, the European Commission launched an online public consultation on an implementing regulation aimed at adapting the EU regulation (2019/1021) on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) - highly toxic, everlasting chemical pollutants - to the EU’s international commitments under the Stockholm Convention on POPs. The Implementing Regulation concerns perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and its derivatives listed in Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. It will reduce the maximum concentration of PFOS permitted as an unintentional trace contaminant (impurity) in substances, mixtures and chemical products and remove the last specific derogation permitted in the EU (that relating to use as a mist suppressant for non-decorative hard-chromium plating). The public consultation is open until midnight Brussels time on 1 January 2024. To access: https://aeur.eu/f/9x6 (AN)
