Ignacio Villanueva Serrano, new commander of operation EUNAVFOR Atalanta

15/11/23 (Agence Europe) – The EU Council has appointed on November 15 Spanish Rear Admiral Ignacio Villanueva Serrano as Commander of the European Union military operation to contribute to maritime security in the Western Indian Ocean and Red Sea (EUNAVFOR Atalanta). Promoted to Vice-Admiral on 30 October 2023, Mr Villanueva Serrano is due to succeed his fellow countryman Vice-Admiral José Maria Núñez Torrente, who has held the post since 21 April 2021, on 23 November....
