Marija Pejčinović Burić proposes instruments to combat hate speech

15/11/23 (Agence Europe)The alarming rise in antisemitic incidents across our continent in recent weeks poses grave threat to all our Member States”, said the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, on Wednesday 15 November. She commends the determination of governments to block the way to these “intolerable incidents” and calls on them to “step up” their efforts. The Council of Europe will remain “at the forefront” in the fight against antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred, she said, pointing out that the Council of Europe’s conventions, institutions and monitoring mechanisms are at governments’ and citizens’ disposal “in combating hatred and any form of ethnic or religious discrimination and in defending our values as enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights”. (VL)
