30/10/23 (Agence Europe) – Following on from the French and Irish authorities (see EUROPE 13277/18), on Monday 30 October the European Commission signed an administrative agreement with the Italian media regulator (AGCOM) to support its supervisory powers under the Digital Services Act (DSA) (see EUROPE 13276/14). Italy is the third Member State to designate the national coordinator that will be part of the future Digital Services Council. The DSA requires these authorities to be designated by the Member States before 17 February 2024. However, on 18 October, the European Commission recommended that, in view of the increasing volume of illegal content and disinformation online, Member States should speed up the implementation of the DSA and appoint an independent authority “straightaway” to finish putting in place the future network of coordinators (see EUROPE 13274/3).
