30/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has announced that on Monday 30 October, an EU humanitarian airlift landed in Herat, bringing 92 tonnes of essential supplies to help people affected by the earthquakes that hit Afghanistan earlier this month. The EU donated 57 tonnes of the shipment from its own stocks in Dubai, including blankets and wintering kits for tents. Twenty tonnes of medicines were transported for the World Health Organization, and 15 tonnes of food were delivered for the World Food Programme. Two upcoming flights to Herat and Kabul will bring together in-kind contributions from Ireland and Italy and relief items from the EU’s humanitarian partners. France is also strengthening its aid transport and storage capacities. (CG)
