Brussels, 10/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 5 October, the Chairs of five European Parliament committees renewed their invitation to the CEO of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, to take part in a joint hearing before MEPs. An initial invitation was sent to the video-sharing platform’s CEO in July 2023 to discuss the company’s growth and the legal responsibilities that this entails. Mr Chew turned it down. This new invitation follows the conclusions of the Irish Data Protection Commission on 15 September, which stated that the Chinese company was not complying with some of its obligations regarding processing data under the General Data Protection Regulation. TikTok was fined €345 million. See the letter to Mr Chew: https://aeur.eu/f/8zc (TM)
