08/09/23 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 8 September, the European Commission announced that it had registered ‘Milas Yağlı Zeytini’ olives produced in Turkey in the EU Register of protected designations of origin (PDO). The PDO ‘Milas Yağlı Zeytini’ refers to the table olives of the Memecik variety grown in the province of Milas, fermented in brine and preserved with olive oil and slices of fresh lemon. Milas Yağlı Zeytini olives are ripe, black and purple in colour, whole and vertically split. The specificity of the product is closely linked to the climatic conditions of the region and local know-how. This new designation will be added to the list of 1,654 agricultural products already protected at the EU level. (LC)
