08/09/23 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 8 September, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision to sign an agreement with Albania on the operational activities carried out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), it said in a press release. The agreement will enable joint operations to be organised and Frontex border management teams to be deployed in Albania. The deployment of Frontex teams will be subject to the country’s agreement. The decision was taken by written procedure. “Thanks to this agreement, Frontex will be able to help Albania manage migratory flows, combat illegal immigration and fight cross-border crime”, explains the EU Council. The European Parliament still has to give its consent before the procedure can be definitively adopted by the EU. (SP)
