08/09/23 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 7 September, the European Commission opened a public consultation until 5 October on a new implementing directive on firearms, which will introduce a new rule setting “the minimum depth for markings on firearms and their essential components” at “0.08 mm”, it says. “This technical requirement will be added to existing standards laid down in Commission Implementing Directive 2019/68. This requirement meets the standards applicable in the biggest firearms export markets. It will help to increase the traceability of firearms and facilitate the safe transfer of firearms and their essential components within the EU and their exportation outside the EU”, explained the Commission.
