On Monday 14 August, the European Commission announced that it had approved a modification to an existing Spanish scheme to support the production of films and other audiovisual works, originally approved by the Commission in May 2014. The aid scheme had already been amended in December 2015 and December 2020.
The amendment includes an increase in the annual budget of €340 million, bringing the scheme’s annual budget to €400 million.
The amendment also introduces an increase in the maximum amount of tax deduction that aid recipients can claim. This maximum amount has been increased to €20 million per film, instead of the previous €10 million.
In addition, the amended scheme sets the tax deduction per series episode at a maximum of €10 million.
Finally, the duration of the scheme has been extended to 31 December 2026.
The scheme was found to comply with European State aid rules and, more specifically, with the 2013 communication on State aid to films and other audiovisual works. (Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
