24/08/23 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 21 August, the European Union, also in its capacity as co-chair of the economic working group of the International Follow-up Committee on Libya, welcomed the finalisation of the reunification of the Central Bank of Libya “as a unitary, sovereign institution”. The spokesman for the European External Action Service also welcomed the commitment made by the Central Bank's leaders to work to remedy the consequences of almost a decade of division within the institution. “The reunification of the branches of Central Bank is a crucial step towards a united, stable, and prosperous Libya”, he stressed. According to the spokesman, it is now up to all parties concerned to build on this achievement to bring to a successfully conclude the ongoing talks aimed at finding an inclusive and sustainable political solution, through national elections.
