16/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – To assess the effectiveness of the 2012 Directive on waste from electrical and electronic equipment (2012/19/EU, known as the ‘WEEE Directive’) in meeting the objectives of the European Green Deal, the European Commission launched a second public consultation on Friday 16 June, focusing on new challenges such as access to critical raw materials, increased consumption and digitisation. It is seeking input from all interested parties on identifying equipment containing critical raw materials and existing recycling practices for these materials. This assessment will also identify any shortcomings in the implementation of this directive. An initial call for contributions was launched in October 2022 (see EUROPE 13038/25). The results of the evaluation are now scheduled for the second quarter of 2024. This new public consultation is open until midnight on 22 September.
