12/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Judicial Network (EJN) is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Set up in June 1998 by the Council of the European Union to assist legal practitioners in the fight against cross-border crime, it facilitates requests for bilateral cooperation between judicial authorities, prosecutors and ministries of justice via a network of national contact points. Its work is supported by a secretariat and a rotating Presidency Board, which follows the rotation of the Council of the EU. Over the last 10 years, the contact points have reported more than 90,000 cases. The EJN has seen an increase in requests for collaboration, with 8,000 new cases per year. To mark this anniversary, the main EU developments in judicial cooperation in criminal matters will be presented in Stockholm at the EJN plenary meeting from 12 to 14 June. (NP)
