On Thursday 8 June, the European Commission launched a call for contributions and a public consultation on industrial carbon management, focusing on the deployment of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).
This 12-week consultation is part of the European Green Deal and aims to gather the opinions of stakeholders and citizens to support the preparation of a new European strategy in this area. The Commission’s communication, due to be published by the end of 2023, will focus on establishing a market for industrial carbon management by 2030.
Contributors to this consultation will have the opportunity to share their views and provide feedback on a range of issues relating to CCUS, including specific policy recommendations. The topics covered include the potential role of these technologies in decarbonising the EU economy by 2030, 2040 and 2050, and the measures needed to maximise their potential, particularly with regard to the deployment of EU-wide transport and CO2 storage infrastructures.
Issues relating to the policy and regulatory framework, business involvement, international cooperation and raising public awareness are also covered.
This call is open until 31 August 2023.
