12/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU has put the Renewable Energy Directive back on the agenda for the meeting of Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) on Wednesday 14 June, as well as the ReFuel initiative for aviation. The adoption of these directives was put on hold after France and other ‘pro-nuclear’ countries demanded greater flexibility for low-carbon hydrogen (produced from nuclear energy) (see EUROPE 13185/30). A number of players in the renewable energy and transport sectors took to Twitter to express their delight at the fact that Coreper’s agenda had been reinstated, as did Christophe Grudler (Renew Europe, French), the European Parliament’s co-rapporteur on the Renewable Energy Directive. “This will enable our Industry and Energy Committee to vote before the end of June. Investors urgently need a good signal!”. According to a source on the Council side, the Presidency will try to reach an agreement on the basis of the unchanged text (see EUROPE 13153/1). (PLD)
