24/05/23 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 24 May, the European Parliament’s Transport Committee (TRAN) validated the Interinstitutional Agreement on the regulation on the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport by 40 votes in favour and 2 abstentions. This initiative, entitled ‘FuelEU Maritime’, was agreed with the European Parliament at the end of March (see EUROPE 13171/38). The agreement requires ships to gradually reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Containerships and passenger ships will be obliged to use on-shore-power supply for all electricity needs while moored at the quayside in major EU ports as of 2030. The agreement must now be approved by the full House, possibly during the July plenary session in Strasbourg. Read the agreement: https://aeur.eu/f/71b (AD)
