23/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) approved the European Parliament/EU Council provisional agreement on the ‘Chips Act’ on Tuesday 23 May (60 votes in favour, 1 against and 2 abstentions). The Member States already gave their agreement on 10 May (see EUROPE 13179/3). All that remains is for Parliament to vote in plenary so that the Council can then formally adopt the regulation. The EU hopes to give a strong boost to the semiconductor industry in Europe with the Chips Act and attract at least €43 billion of investment by 2030. (LM)
