23/05/23 (Agence Europe) – The European Union considers Russia’s moves to undermine the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) investigation into international crimes in Ukraine to be “baseless, unjustified and unacceptable”, in a statement issued by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on Monday 22 May. In particular, Moscow’s criminal prosecution of the ICC prosecutor and three judges demonstrates the “Kremlin’s disregard” for international law, he added. The EU remains committed to defending the Court’s staff from external interference and calls on all Member States to uphold the principles and values enshrined in the Rome Statute establishing the ICC.
