16/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – The NGO Bloom, in a report published on Tuesday 16 May in close collaboration with the International Human Rights Clinic at Harvard Law School, denounces human trafficking, physical and verbal abuse, debt bondage and inhumane working conditions throughout the global tuna supply chain. The report ‘Violence en boîte’ (‘Violence in a can’) attempts to show the failure of countries and companies to combat these abuses and to ensure that the rights of workers in the tuna industry are protected and respected. The European control system is considered both opaque and highly ineffective, failing to identify human rights violations in tuna fishing operations.
