16/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) has appointed its first Fundamental Rights Officer, it announced in a statement on Tuesday 16 May. The Belgian François Deleu will work “independently and report to the board. He will propose a fundamental rights strategy to the Agency and will also be responsible for the implementation of the Agency’s complaint mechanism once it is in place, both of which are key pillars of the new EUAA mandate”, the statement continues. The Agency will work with Member States to promote “procedures and practices that respect fundamental rights, including through specialised training and guidance”. (SP)
