16/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 15 May, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell welcomed Kazakhstan’s newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu during his first official visit to Brussels. “We discussed enhancing our relations [and] deepening cooperation [including] on connectivity, energy, critical raw materials [and] people-to-people contacts”, Mr Borrell summarised on Twitter. “Also exchanged on [the] impact of Russia’s war [and] sanction circumvention”. In a statement, the European External Action Service (EEAS) also included a reminder that the EU is Kazakhstan’s biggest investor and main trading partner: “Enhanced cooperation will aim to improve the investment climate to attract even more European investors to Kazakhstan”.
