The European Union disapproved, on Wednesday 3 May, of Pristina’s decision to dissolve the team responsible for setting up the Association of Serbian Municipalities in northern Kosovo.
The decision of the Kosovar government came as Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met on Tuesday 2 May in Brussels to discuss the implementation of the agreement on the path to normalisation of relations between their two countries (see EUROPE 13174/20).
“As for the reported decision of Kosovo to disband the management team, the dialogue agreements clearly state that the management team must be in operation until the statute of the Association for Municipalities with a Serbian majority is approved”, the European Commission’s spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Peter Stano, commented to the Kosovar media outlet kallxo.com.
“Any decision regarding the management team must be approved in the framework of the EU-facilitated dialogue”, he added.
The team responsible for the creation of the Association of Serbian Municipalities in northern Kosovo presented the first draft of the status of this entity on Tuesday 2 May. The Kosovar Prime Minister had rejected it, saying that the draft did not respect the country’s constitution. The Serbian President, for his part, had judged that “Pristina did not want to fulfil its obligations”. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
