28/04/23 (Agence Europe) – The EU directive on consumer credit agreements in the digital age, which aims to better protect consumers from over-indebtedness and create harmonised conditions for credit companies, will soon be adopted. On Wednesday 26 April, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU validated the provisional interinstitutional agreement reached on 2 December 2022 (see EUROPE 13076/3). 12 technical meetings have since taken place (see EUROPE 13114/20). Deferred debit cards will not be covered, provided that they are provided by a credit or payment institution, that the credit must be repaid within 40 days, that it does not bear interest and that there are limited charges for providing the payment service. The directive will be adopted once all language versions are available. See the text: https://aeur.eu/f/6md (AN)
