28/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – In response to the violent fighting in Sudan, the European Commission has released €200,000 in emergency humanitarian aid to help people injured or at high risk in Khartoum and other affected States. This announcement was made on Friday 28 April, when the broken ceasefire was extended for 3 days. The EU grant will enable the Sudanese Red Crescent Society to provide first aid, evacuation services and psychosocial support to some 70,000 people in Khartoum, the Northern State, North Kordofan, South Darfur and North Darfur. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees warned the same day of the seriousness of the situation and that it had been forced to suspend most of its lifesaving activities in Khartoum and in those States where it had become too dangerous to operate.
