The foreign ministers of the EU Member States adopted, on Monday 24 April, sanctions against eight individuals and one entity, deemed “responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran”.
Those subject to the measures are two “hardline” Iranian legislators, the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Qom province, as well as the chair, vice-chair and three board members of the IRGC Cooperative Foundation, a foundation sanctioned by the EU.
The EU Council also took action against Ariantel, an Iranian mobile service provider, which, according to the EU, “has been at the forefront of rolling-out the comprehensive telecommunications surveillance architecture mapped out by the Iranian Government to quash dissent and critical voices in Iran”.
The EU is applying sanctions against 211 individuals and 35 entities responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran.
