190 million euros to improve railway infrastructure in Slovakia

24/04/2023 (Agence Europe)Slovakia will have the opportunity to complete the railway infrastructure connecting the Žilina-Teplička marshalling yard railway, a core Trans-European Transport Network, thanks to a recently adopted investment of more than €190 million from the Cohesion Fund 2014-2020, the European Commission announced on Monday 24 April. The EU funding will support the reconstruction and modernisation of a total of 7.85 km of railway. The old railway will be dismantled and supporting structures will be laid under the tracks on the Strážov-Žilina and Budatín-Žilina sections, and at the Žilina station. Two platforms and extended noise barriers will be completed and six railway bridges, four road bridges, one new road bridge and six underpasses will be built or rebuilt. Five underpasses for pedestrians and cyclists will be built and extended. (LC)
