30/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The EU will mobilise €60 million in humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable populations in Lebanon, announced European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič on Thursday 30 March, during a visit to the country. Lebanon is facing a multifaceted crisis with growing poverty, food insecurity and epidemics. This new humanitarian aid will take the form of food aid, cash and education and health services. Emergency aid will be channelled through NGOs, UN agencies and the Commission’s international partner organisations (ECHO). “Four million people need humanitarian aid to meet their basic needs”, the Commissioner said on Twitter on Thursday, recalling that Lebanon has taken in 1.5 million Syrian refugees. Mr Lenarčič met with Lebanese authorities, NGO partners and visited EU-funded humanitarian projects. (AN)
