23/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 22 March, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuan signed the multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters at the OECD’s headquarters in Paris. The world’s widest-reaching international treaty for multilateral tax cooperation now has 147 jurisdictions. The country is currently on the European ‘grey’ list of jurisdictions that have made commitments on good governance in tax matters (see EUROPE 12887/13). In early 2022, the European Union found that Vietnam had not completed its implementation of country-by-country reporting (CbCR). The convention enables jurisdictions to engage in a wide range of mutual-assistance measures such as exchange of information, tax audits, and assistance in tax collection. It also provides extensive safeguards to protect taxpayers’ rights. This signing strengthens the convention’s reach in Asia. (AD)
