21/03/23 (Agence Europe) – With 46 votes in favour and 7 abstentions, MEPs in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) voted on Tuesday 21 March to accept all the compromise amendments to the own-initiative report on the massive ‘Pandora Papers’ data leak. “I am particularly proud about our agreement on taxation of capital gains and limiting harmful tax practices aimed at attracting foreign-earned income, wealth and assets”, commented rapporteur Niels Fuglsang (S&D, Danish) in a statement. “This is the first time we state such a clear call on the Commission and Members States to act on these areas”, he added. The report also addresses the protection of journalists and whistleblowers, potential problems with tax regimes designed to attract digital nomads, and income earned abroad (see EUROPE 13145/20).
