EU RESPONSE TO COVID-19 / Health

ECDC updates guidance to better analyse public health response to Covid-19

On Tuesday 21 March, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) updated its guidance to help Member States conduct ex-post reviews (after-action reviews or AARs) of the public health response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The aim is to identify best practice and any gaps in the responses that were provided.

The report is aimed at public health experts in the Member States of the European Union and the European Economic Area, candidate countries and potential candidate countries for EU membership, and countries included in the European Neighbourhood Policy.

The update provides additional details and tools to the guidance that was previously published in June 2020 and 2021.

According to ECDC, the proposed protocol and methodology can be fully adapted to national and sub-national contexts. The approach advocated by the ECDC includes the possibility of combining the priority intervention areas into modules.

The document was developed on the basis of online meetings held with ECDC National Focal Points for Preparedness and Response, a consultation, two workshops and the collation of received comments. The document has been subject to feedback through the submission of comments from ECDC National Focal Points for Preparedness and Response in two consultations.
