20/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton announced on Friday 17 March that the European Commission will “go after” digital platforms that have failed to disclose their precise number of users in the EU, as required by the Digital Services Act (DSA). Digital companies had until 17 February to disclose (see EUROPE 13124/2) so that the Commission could then designate those that meet the criteria as a ‘very large online platform’, which would imply stricter rules in terms of moderation or control of content. “A few online platforms did not comply with their obligations and either failed to provide the number of users or simply declared that they did not meet the designation thresholds”, Mr Breton added. Amazon, Apple, AliExpress and Pinterest said they had more than 45 million users without giving further details, while Spotify and Booking said they were below the threshold. (TM)
