On Thursday 16 March, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, called on the international community to redouble its efforts to achieve a lasting and comprehensive political solution for Syria.
This week marks the 12th anniversary of peaceful protests across Syria that were brutally suppressed by the Assad regime, sparking a conflict that continues to this day, the High Representative said in a statement.
He made it clear that the EU remains fully committed to a lasting and comprehensive political solution and will continue to support the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to find a solution that respects the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian state.
Mr Borrell also took the opportunity to announce that the 7th Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region would be held on 15 June 2023. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
