10/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – Seven environmental organisations, grouped in the Coordination of European Affairs in Wind Turbines network, are calling on the Council of the EU to reconsider its position on Regulation 2022/2577 setting out a framework for accelerating the development of renewable energy. In particular, they target the presumption of overriding public interest for renewable energy, which they say “seriously harms biodiversity, in defiance of EU law”. They denounce, among other things, the use of the urgency procedure to deal with an issue under consideration by the European Parliament and the lack of information and consultation of the public. They urge the EU Council to respond publicly to their request within 18 weeks and reserve the right to refer the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union in the event of a negative response.
