08/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties who visited Greece from 6 to 8 March reported on Wednesday their concerns about the “very serious threats to the Rule of law” in the country, especially regarding the safety of journalists, reported the head of mission, Sophie in ‘t Veld (Renew Europe, Dutch). The visit covered media freedom and the safety of journalists, migration policies or the use of spyware. However, the mission was unable to meet with the Prime Minister, government ministers or representatives of the Supreme Court, who “were not available or refused to meet with them”. The EPP group in the European Parliament had decided not to join this mission, which was considered inadequate after the Larissa train tragedy. (SP)
