08/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU is preparing the EU’s position at the eleventh Conference of the Parties of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) (COP11, Geneva, 1-12 May) on the addition of new POPs to Annex A of this international instrument. According to a compromise proposal submitted to the EU Council’s Environment Working Group on 6 March, the position will be as follows: - support the listing of dechlorane plus (a polychlorinated flame retardant), with the specific derogations recommended by the POPs Review Committee; - support the inclusion of methoxychlor, without specific derogations; - support the listing of UV-328, with the specific derogations recommended by the POPs Review Committee.
