Member States set scene for European Council’s Spring meeting on energy issues

08/03/2023 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 8 March, the Committee of the Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) discussed the topics on the agenda for the European summit on 23 and 24 March, including energy. According to guidelines for the European Council’s conclusions, the EU27 will invite the European Commission and the Member States to start preparing for the winter of 2023-24, for example, by filling up gas tanks and buying gas in bulk as an AggregateEU through the EU’s dedicated energy platform. They will encourage the European Commission to finalise the evaluation of emergency measures adopted in 2022, such as the gas price capping. They will also call on the EU legislator to agree on all proposals to accelerate the green transition and to move forward with the work on the proposed revision of the internal electricity market (see EUROPE 13136/1).
