Four universities crowned EU ‘champions’ for gender equality

08/03/23 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 8 March, the European Commission designated four universities as ‘EU Gender Equality Champions’ for 2023. Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) were given the award for their continued efforts in implementing the 2020–2025 Gender Equality Strategy (see EUROPE 12440/7), Maynooth University (Ireland) for demonstrating rapid progress despite having only recently implemented the strategy, and finally, the South East Technological University (Ireland) for its inclusive and intersectional approach to gender equality (while taking into account multiple discrimination). Each winner will receive a prize of €111,000. Created under the framework of Horizon Europe in 2022, the aim of the prize is to raise awareness of the need for institutional changes to achieve gender equality. (HS)
