06/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – Markus Pieper (EPP, German) managed to get the next session of inter-institutional negotiations on the revision of the ‘RED II’ directive on renewable energy, scheduled for Tuesday 7 February, cancelled, much to the dismay of some of his colleagues involved in the dossier (see EUROPE 13114/9). The European Parliament’s rapporteur intends to lobby against the European Commission’s delay in publishing the delegated act to establish the criteria for renewable hydrogen. Asked on Monday 6 February, a spokesperson for the EU institution called the situation “rather regrettable”, assuring that the Commission was in the process of finalising its draft delegated act. Christophe Grudler (Renew Europe, French) and Nicolás González Casares (S&D, Spanish) took to Twitter to criticise Pieper’s approach, which they said was like holding renewable energy hostage. (MB)
