Twitter, Germany expresses concerns to European Commission about company’s decisions and asks it to react

22/12/2022 (Agence Europe)Sven Giegold, State Secretary at the German Ministry of Economic Affairs, sent a letter, on Thursday 22 December, to Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager and the Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, expressing his “great concern” about the situation at Twitter, following what he described as “abrupt” and “arbitrary” decisions in the wake of the company’s takeover by US entrepreneur Elon Musk (see EUROPE 13086/10). In his letter, Sven Giegold asks the Commission to proceed with the examination, “as soon as possible”, to classify the social network Twitter in the category of ‘gatekeepers’, as provided for in the Digital Services Act (DSA) (see EUROPE 13068/6).
