22/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission adopted Spain’s ‘Territorial Just Transition Plan’ on Thursday, 22 December. With €869 million from the ‘Just Transition Fund’ (JTF), the envelope will be allocated to the Principality of Asturias as well as to the provinces of A Coruña, Teruel, León, Palencia, Almería, Cádiz, and Córdoba and municipalities of Mallorca. Investments will notably be geared towards improving energy efficiency, promoting the circular economy, developing renewable energy sources, and helping industry “go green” in the territories concerned. Concurrently, the Spanish programme plans to assist SMEs that contribute to economic diversification. Finally, the JTF will be used to fund training for professionals in coal-intensive industries and to encourage innovative and sustainable sectors, such as sustainable and cultural tourism. Spain signed its Partnership Agreement for the 2021–2027 Cohesion Policy last November (see EUROPE 13067/16). (HS)
