19/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – While the EU Monitoring Capacity to Armenia (EUMCAP), which was launched in October, completed its mandate on Monday 19 December, the EU Council announced on the same day that it had decided, in agreement with the Armenian authorities, that the current EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia) will deploy a transitional planning assistance team to Armenia. The objective of this mission will be to increase the EU’s awareness of the security situation and to contribute to the planning and preparation of a possible civilian CSDP mission to the country (see EUROPE 13085/28). The transitional team should also support European Council President Charles Michel in the EU-facilitated normalisation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the EU Council said in its statement.
