€169 million for a just transition in Ireland, announces European Commission

19/12/2022 (Agence Europe)The European Commission adopted, on Monday 19 December, Ireland’s Territorial Just Transition Plan. The country will thus benefit from €169 million from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) (see EUROPE 13069/32) which will be allocated mainly to the Midlands region. More specifically, the plan includes encouraging the abandonment of peat-based electricity generation and economic diversification. The investments will thus aim to create jobs in “green” sectors such as sustainable tourism and to stimulate innovation in the circular economy. The JTF will also support the development of smart mobility in the region and the preservation of biodiversity. Ireland sealed its partnership agreement under the Cohesion Policy 2021-2027 last September (see EUROPE 13025/10). (HS)
