16/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Chair of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, Romeo Franz (Greens/EFA, German), and the rapporteur for the country, Paulo Rangel (EPP, Portuguese), welcomed, on Friday 16 December, the European Council’s decision to grant candidate country status to Bosnia and Herzegovina (see EUROPE 13085/6). “Against the background of insufficient progress by Bosnian political actors, this decision is a clear sign of the EU’s commitment to the citizens” of the country, they stressed in a statement. In their view, this is an “important one-off incentive”, which the Bosnian authorities should act on quickly. For both MEPs, there is an urgent need to implement in a tangible way the 14 key priorities and eight requirements identified in the Commission October 2022 recommendation. (CG)
