16/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Battery Alliance (EBA) warns that the growth of the European battery sector could come to a halt, in a joint statement issued on Wednesday 14 December, particularly with the implementation of the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) (see EUROPE 12085/2) enacted in 2022. For the Alliance, the redeployment of European funds (REPowerEU, Recovery and Resilience Facility) needs to be accelerated. The battery sector must become a priority of the future European Sovereignty Fund. For EBA, it is necessary to: - simplify Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI); - introduce flexibilities in EU State aid rules; - obtain equal treatment of the European and US battery sectors under the IRA.
