14/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 14 December the adoption of Lithuania’s Just Transition Plan. The districts of Kaunas, Šiauliai and Telšiai, which are dependent on industries with high greenhouse gas emissions, will benefit from €273 million from the Just Transition Fund (JTF). In particular, EU funding will support the introduction of ‘green’ hydrogen and other innovative solutions into production processes, as well as the modernisation of industrial sites. Moreover, almost €100 million will support job creation in sustainable sectors and SMEs. Finally, the Lithuanian plan provides for assistance for around 4,500 workers in their professional retraining. (HS)
