13/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – Iran has sanctioned German Greens/EFA MEP Hannah Neumann, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula and Vice-Chair of the Sub-committee on Human Rights, in response to EU sanctions against those responsible for human rights violations in Iran (see EUROPE 13082/7). “In the end, this is good news, because it shows that the Iranian regime cares about what I say. It shows that it tries, by all means, to stifle freedom of speech of those who denounce the atrocities and crimes it commits”, Ms Neumann said on 13 December, assuring that her “fight for freedom” would continue. In total, 5 entities and 10 individuals have been sanctioned, including the Persian section of Radio Free Europe (Radio Farda), Charlie Hebdo and German politicians. (CG)
