09/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – SMEunited warned against some of the European Commission’s ambitions regarding the right to repair, during a hearing in the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on Thursday 8 December. It calls for fair and proportionate treatment of economic operators, sharing duties and responsibilities along the supply chain, including consumers, and without overburdening manufacturers. The main problem would be the cost of repair services. The association believes that incentives for consumers should be introduced and the sales of goods directive, applicable since the beginning of 2022, should not be reopened in order to guarantee legal certainty for SMEs. SMEunited also opposes the extension of guarantees and the widening of their scope, including to situations of normal wear and tear. (PH)
